Customer Review: Not Worth the Money
I unboxed this window fan just a few minutes ago. I was debating between this model and a model with a remote control. I decided to purchase this model because the description claims that the fan has a removable grill to allow easy cleaning. I currently have an old window fan with 2 speed settings. One of the 2 motors on my fan has been getting weaker and weaker and i thought it was time to replace the fan. I always hated having to spend 30-45 minutes to disassemble the old fan for a proper cleaning, especially during peak pollen season when it may need to be cleaned every few days. I was disappointed to discover that the new fan does not have removable grills as the description claims. Another disappointment are the side panels that allow the fan to fit into the window. They are nothing more than flimsy pieces of plastic about 1/8th of an inch thick. The two panels slide onto small grooves on the fan. One of the two panels is adjustable. This panel is made of two pieces of plastic that slide past each other and has notches that hold it in place. The adjustable panel often gets jammed because both sides don't adjust evenly. I can easily bend these panels in my hands without applying much force and wouldn't trust them to support the weight of the fan without breaking The fan does have a thermostat and three fan speeds. It is electrically reversible, meaning the direction air flow can be changed without flipping the fan around manually. I wouldn't call this fan quieter than my old fan. My old fan has 2 speed settings and they are the noise level equivalent to the fist two speed settings on this new fan, however the new fan has much more airflow. The fastest speed setting is quite a bit louder, and has very good airflow. Although this fan does have some positive features, I feel these features are becoming more of a standard, even on the lower cost fans. I was walking through Home Depot and noticed a window fan with a thermostat and three speed settings for about $25. Overall, this fan isn't worth what you pay for it, I believe there are just as good, or better solutions for a lower price so I will be repacking this fan and sending it back.
